2013 Cactus Classic 2wd Results

So the 2013 Cactus Classic is now over and all the trophies have been handed out and this year’s race was certainly one to remember. The talk of the weekend was the sugar coating of the already “HIGH BITE” SRS track and the explosion of the mid motor buggy. To my understanding….the sugar coating of the track was done to mimic the ultra high grip of this year’s IFMAR World’s track at Silver Dollar Raceway in Chico California. Whether this is true or not, this is the first MAJOR event in U.S. 1:10 scale off-road history that was won by a mid motor car.

I expect this to be the beginning of a revolution and that mid motor is no longer just an option for the Euro tracks, but also a viable option for the high grip clay indoor tracks found all across the United States. It’s here and now here to stay!

If you look at the 2wd A-main results, everyone besides the Team Associated crew ran mid motor. That makes 7 out 10 cars in the “A” were in MM configuration. Kyosho’s Jared Tebo won in just 2 mains with his MM Kyosho RB6. Naoto Matsukura’s set TQ with his MM Yokomo B-Max. You have to give credit to Maifield as he drove an incredible race with his rear motor B4.2 finishing 2nd overall, but you have to wonder if it’s just because he’s extremely dialed on his home track. Cav finished 6th and if you watch the videos, he was battling mid-pack and not upfront for the win. This is pretty much unheard of from the current IFMAR 2wd and 4wd World Champion because he is a winning threat anywhere he goes.

Congrats to Jared Tebo and Kyosho/Orion and the rest of the MM guys. You’re changing the face of 2wd buggies and these are exciting times if you’re a 2wd drive fan.
