The first round of qualifiers of the JConcepts Indoor Nationals round 2 at Tacoma R/C Raceway are officially in the books. With most racers wisely putting in safety runs for the first round, some would not hold anything back and shoot straight to the front of the pack setting the fastest runs of the round.

The competition and rivalry in the stock classes is just as competitive as in the modified classes with Kyosho/JConcepts’ Shane Borden taking the early round 1 TQ with his Schuur Speed powered RB6. Jonny Deck would qualify 2nd, just 1 second behind Borden with a 17 lap 5:09.28. Rounding out the top 3 would be Casey Vitale whom was the top seed for the 2wd stock class and holding strong with a 17 lap 5:09.82.

Stock truck was a dynamite show between David McLean and Shane Borden. McLean would edge out Borden for TQ honors in round 1 by 1.5 seconds with a 17 lap 5:15.55. Chris Barton would qualify 3rd for the round with a 16 lap 5:01.51.

The show in 4wd modified had the entire room on their feet as Ryan Maifield and Michael Schoettler would engage in a battle that lasted the entire 5 minutes on the clock. There was a point where it looked like Maifield was going to walk away and take an easy TQ run, but Schoettler would dig deep to close the gap. Maifield would cross the line with a 19 lap 5:08.02 and Schoettler would only lose TQ by .6 seconds! AE/JConcepts’ Damon Borkowicsz would fly under the radar and take a well deserved 3rd place run.

Having just TQ’d 4wd, Ryan Maifield was looking to double up against the elite field of drivers in the highly contested 2wd modified class. It would be Kyosho/JConcepts’ Tanner Day taking an early lead while the Maifield and Schoettler were still trying to find their rhythm, Day would lead them on the clock. With 2 minutes in, however Schoettler would finally find his way to the front, he would have an unfortunate run in with a crashed car in the sweeper causing him to lose his lead and a lot of time. Deciding to save his tires, Schoettler would pull off and concede this round and get ready for the next. This would allow Maifield to take over the lead and finish 1st for the round making a clean sweep in 2wd and 4wd. Tanner Day would maintain his focus and impressively finish with a strong 2nd place and only a second behind Maifield. AE/JConcepts’ Luke Smith would round out the top 3.
