Setting round 1 TQ was Team Associated’s Luke Smith. Having to work on Friday and only able to show up after 5pm for practice, the cool headed Smith drove with nothing to lose and no pressure, which resulted in him taking overall TQ for round 1. Saying that his car was, “Dialed”, he said his goal for the next round was to clean up the few minor mistakes he had and hope for an even better round 2. Team Associated’s John Walentia was ‘Mr. Consistency’ as his smart run was able to net him 2nd overall. He said he put in a run that Alonso would have been proud of. 3rd fastest time belonged to TLR’s JC Johnson who was able to defeat Micheal Schoettler in his heat battle and push Schoettler to 4th overall for round 1.

Evans having the speed to take TQ had a mistake by the loop line and a horrible corner marshal job resulted in an up hill battle with not enough time to battle back. I’m sure the National Champ will bounce back with a vengeance in round 2…. Can’t wait to see what happens in round 2 as it’s about to start!
